A Turkey Habitat Success Story
Monday Mar 07, 2022
Monday Mar 07, 2022
Turkey season is here!!! Well, in south florida turkey season is here. So that’s where you can find us! Jordan, his wife Jessi, and myself are at Blackbeard’s ranch and have had an incredible two days of hunting. We’ll be sure to fill you in on the action. Some of which is our best description of what it feels like to hear a turkey drumming in a tree before daylight! The meat of our conversation, however, is with our good friend and Blackbeard’s Ranch manager Jim Strickland. Jim has been a rancher for over 60 years, and is an absolute innovator, creative mind, and savant in finding ways to make agriculture and wildlife conservation successfully coincide. Seriously, if you have ANY interest in managing a property for wild turkeys, and other wildlife, this episode is completely worth the listen. We cover subjects such as prescribed burning, cost share programs, predator trapping, and so much more. Don’t miss it!

LIVE From Starkville
Monday Feb 28, 2022
Monday Feb 28, 2022
Join in on our first LIVE podcast experience from Rick's Cafe in Starkville, Mississippi. It's hard to put into words how awesome it felt to see that entire venue fill-up with Mossy Oak bottomland camo and like-minded turkey enthusiasts. The conversation started with a deep dive into the history of the wild turkey in Mississippi, and then went to swapping several old stories from the college years. We also dabbled lightly in topics concerning turkey hunting etiquette, pre-season scouting, and then ended on an ultra high-note when we opened the floor up to an audience Q&A. One thing is for sure; this episode doesn't have a dull moment.

This Land Is Your Land
Tuesday Feb 22, 2022
Tuesday Feb 22, 2022
Join us for this special release episode as we discuss the the legislative proposal to turn Black Prairie Wildlife Management Area to private land ownership. This an issue that we care deeply about, seeing as it is taking place in our home state. We have researched this matter incessantly, to be sure to be able to present you first with facts, and then how we personally feel about it. Public lands are one one of the many great things we have in this country, and we will not sit idly by and watch them get taken away. Please do your part and let your voice be heard on this issue.

A Stack Of Old Turkey Pictures
Monday Feb 21, 2022
Monday Feb 21, 2022
Tales from the turkey woods may get older in years, but from our experience, they never get old to listen to. Reach way back into the archives with us as we discuss the days of turkey hunting being written about in news paper articles, taking a roll of film the local drug store to get developed, and sending printed out pictures and letters in to the sporting goods magazines in hopes of making it onto one of those glossy, colored pages. It's a wonder to see how far it has come.

How Do Ya Call A Turkey With One Leg?
Monday Feb 14, 2022
Monday Feb 14, 2022
I would wager you've never heard a turkey hunting story like the one told on this podcast episode. Good friend, fervent hunter, and Wren & Ivy founder, B.C. Rogers joins us this week to tell us one of the most unique tales we've ever heard come out of the spring woods. Statements like ," It looked like someone was dribbling a basketball" are just words you don't normally see paired with a strutting turkey.
Other topics discussed include:
watching a turkey fly into a power line
what should be the ethical standard for the distance we shoot turkeys?
an unplanned grand slam

Monday Feb 07, 2022
Monday Feb 07, 2022
We have new turkey content on YouTube right now! We discuss a hunt from the past spring with our good friend Dave Owens of the Pinhoti Project. If that's not a hunt to test your optimism and attitude, then I don't know what is. We also discuss some of the more common things that a turkey hunter could be doing right now to increase his odds of success in the spring that often gets put off or over looked. We also touch briefly on Jordan's new turkey gun, his homemade trigger jobs, the lore behind the Heartbreaker box call, and much more! Check it out!

The Lining Is Silver And Icy
Monday Jan 24, 2022
Monday Jan 24, 2022
There's a lot that goes into the last week of January. It's the end of deer season. It's the end of duck season. Heck, it's even the beginning of when the general masses of the hunting community deem it acceptable to start talking about gobbling turkeys. That being said, there is obviously much to talk about, the first of which being an awesome and unique spot and stalk hunt Brad and I had on a big Kudzu Bluff 6 point last week. We also cover a couple of duck hunts, fighting ice, keeping dogs safe, and our plans for this last week.

Battle Scarred
Monday Jan 10, 2022
Monday Jan 10, 2022
We had never seen a buck with a neck so bruised, cut, and scarred up from fighting as the one we finished off the trip to Swamp Donkey with. It really was a fitting climax to an awesome time at an amazing place. There's just so much to be said about the Mississippi River. There's a deeper reason why it feels so much like home to us. In this episode, we discuss the rest of our trip there, as well as a rare disagreement about what the wildlife and hunting atmosphere was like in several years ago. Not to mention, a few funny duck hunting and deer hunting stories you won't want to miss.
